Empowering Women, Preserving Nature
Introduction:
Sukher Swarga Foundation is committed to improving the lives of people in the Sundarbans through health and environmental sustainability. Our flagship menstrual hygiene project, “Ritu Barta,” focuses on providing a safe, dignified, and eco-friendly solution to menstrual health challenges faced by women in remote coastal regions.
The Impact at a Glance
Total Reach: 6,000+ Women and Adolescent Girls.
Geographical Focus: Remote villages and educational institutions across the Sundarbans.
Sustainable Distribution: 6,000 Reusable Sanitary Napkins distributed to date.
Waste Reduction: 100% Plastic-free initiative.
Why We Choose Reusable Solutions?
In the Sundarbans, geographical isolation and financial constraints often prevent women from accessing standard menstrual products. Sukher Swarga Foundation chose reusable napkins for three critical reasons:
1. 2-Year Long-Term Support
Unlike disposable pads that need to be bought every month, our reusable napkins are durable and can be used for up to two years with proper care. This ensures long-term hygiene security for our beneficiaries.
2. Zero Plastic Pollution
The Sundarbans is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a delicate ecosystem. Disposable pads contain high amounts of plastic that take centuries to decompose. By distributing cloth-based reusable pads, we ensure Zero Plastic Waste, protecting our soil and water from pollution.
3. Economic Freedom
By providing a product that lasts for 24 months, we relieve women of a recurring monthly expense. This economic saving allows families to redirect their limited resources toward food and education.
Beyond Distribution:
Awareness Programs
We believe that distribution without education is incomplete. The Sukher Swarga Foundation team conducts extensive awareness workshops at both community and institutional levels, focusing on:
Hygienic Practices: Teaching safe methods of cleaning and drying reusable pads.
Health Education: Awareness about reproductive health and infection prevention.
Breaking Taboos: Encouraging open conversations about menstruation to remove social stigma.
A Note from the Founder
“At Sukher Swarga Foundation, we don’t just see this as a distribution drive; we see it as a movement. Reaching 6,000 women in the Sundarbans with a solution that protects both their health and their environment is a milestone we are incredibly proud of.”
