Sundarban Mangrove Nursery | Sukher Swarga’s Mangrove NURSERY ( সুন্দরবন ম্যানগ্রোভ নার্সারি)
The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it’s also a place that needs protection from climate change.
Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them.
This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That’s a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission.They don’t just use these saplings for one thing.
They have two main goals: Helping Others: They sell a lot of their saplings to other non-profit groups (NGOs). This helps more people plant trees and protect more areas. It’s a great way to work together. Their Own Projects: They also use many of the saplings for their own planting projects. They plant them along the coast to build stronger defenses against storms and to create new homes for wildlife.To make sure the forest is strong, they grow six different kinds of mangroves.
This includes well-known species like Sundari (Heritiera fomes), Bani (Avicennia officinalis), and Keora (Sonneratia apetala). Growing different types of trees makes the forest healthier and better able to survive.The work at the Sukher Swarga Foundation’s nursery shows how a small group can have a big impact. Every single one of those 100,000 trees is a step towards a safer and greener future for the Sundarbans.
