Mangrove Matters: The 2130 Trees Plantation Drive is ON!
We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to protect the Sundarbans. The Sukher Swarga Foundation (SSF), in a powerful collaboration with Grow Billion Trees, is kicking off a major plantation effort: the “2130 Trees Plantation Drive” as part of our flagship “Mangrove Bachao Project”!
For the people of the Sundarbans, the mangrove forest is not just an ecosystem—it is the very breath and lifeblood of our community, our strongest shield against the fury of nature.
The Mission: Why Every Sapling CountsThe Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage site, faces constant threats from rising sea levels, severe cyclones, and coastal erosion. Our collective survival depends on the strength of our mangrove bio-shield. This project is a direct, community-driven answer to the challenges of climate change.
Through this specific drive, we aim to plant 2,130 vital mangrove saplings in the coastal areas of the Sundarbans, reinforcing the embankments and creating a stronger, more resilient landscape for all.
Empowering the Community: More Than Just Planting
At SSF, we believe that environmental restoration must go hand-in-hand with community empowerment. The success of the “Mangrove Bachao Project” is driven by our local heroes, particularly the incredible women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Women-Run Nurseries: The saplings for this drive, including vital species like Sundari, Bani, and Keora, have been lovingly cultivated in our women-run nurseries. This initiative not only ensures we have the best, locally-adapted plant stock but also provides a sustainable livelihood for our women beneficiaries.
The Power of the Fence: We don’t just plant and leave. Our teams, working side-by-side with local villagers, are constructing strategic protective fences around the young saplings. This crucial step safeguards them from tidal pull and grazing animals, giving our fragile promises the time they need to root and grow strong.
