A Ray of Hope: Building a Brighter Future in the Sundarbans
In the heart of the Sundarbans, a place of immense beauty and persistent challenges, a new story of hope is being written. Our community, while resilient, has long grappled with limited access to quality education. But where others saw an obstacle, a group of young, passionate individuals saw an opportunity to make a difference. This is the story of Safalya Pathsala.SAFALYA PATHSALA, SANDESHKHALI SUNDARBANS It all began in 2018. Led by a remarkable team of dedicated youth—28-year-old Swapan Suin( CEO), a Sukher Swarga Foundation fellow; Anirban Das, our foundation’s director; Tarun Mandal, a 29-year-old from India’s narcotics department; and Rudrendu Giri, a 26-year-old math teacher—Safalya Pathsala was born. What started as a humble coaching center in Manipur, Purba Atapur, Dhuchnikhali, has grown into a powerful force for change.
For eight years, Safalya Pathsala has been a sanctuary for learning. Every year, we have the privilege of teaching over 200 students from neighboring schools like Atapur Kenaram High School, Manipur M.B.C. High School, and Sandeshkhali High School. But our mission has always been about more than just textbooks. We believe in holistic education, teaching students not only how to excel academically, but also how to grow as individuals. From learning to play different games for their physical health to pledging every year to plant over 30,000 mangrove saplings, our students are taught to be stewards of their own health and the environment around them.
This journey has not been without its hurdles. We still face challenges like digital literacy gaps and the lack of a proper lab, but the resilience of our team and the unwavering support of our community keep us moving forward. And today, we are incredibly proud to announce a monumental new chapter. Thanks to the hard work of our team and the immense generosity of our donors, we have built a new, 2200-square-foot English-medium nursery school: the Safalya Academy.
This new school is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. The Safalya Academy is a dream realized, a place where we can provide foundational English-medium education to even the youngest members of our community. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every donor who has believed in our vision. Without your support, none of this would be possible.
